Fair Housing Act (1968)

The Fair Housing Act was part of the larger national Civil Rights Act of 1968 and was intended to make discrimination in the buying, selling or renting of housing illegal at the individual level (making racially restrictive covenants and racist lending practices illegal) and to promote integration across communities. However, the Act had very few specific regulations and largely left enforcement to individuals to complain of discrimination. The Act had very little impact on the social enforcement of segregation.
