By 2018, the Black community makes up only 16% of Central District

The U.S. Census Bureau and ACS data from 1990 to 2018 shows how the Black population in Seattle has moved out of the Central District and is now widely dispersed to the South and East of the city.Courtney Ross, UW Master of Urban Planning, 2020

By 2018, 5-year American Community Survey data estimates the Black population of the historically redlined area of the Central District is only 16% of the total population. The area is now overwhelmingly composed of white residents. The four maps below show how the concentration of Black residents in the area has decreased and shifted south over time.
